How can the the EMDG
benefit my business?
The EMDG allows Australian SMEs to develop export markets, providing support for up to 50% of eligible promotional expenses.
The Grants are designed to support you during different stages of your export journey.
Business funding is open to most industries and industry groups, and applies to businesses selling goods, services, and Intellectual Property that are developed and produced in Australia.

ELIGIBILITY
The EMDG Regulations provide a plain English description of the conditions for your eligibility.
EMDG grant funds must be used for promotional activities to market eligible products in foreign countries, or for training activities to develop skills in such marketing.
To be eligible, a product must be of significantly Australian origin and be one of the following:

INTELLECTUAL PARTY OR KNOW-HOW

SELL AUSTRALIAN MADE PRODUCTS OR SERVICES .

YOUR BUSINESS HAS TO BE TURNING OVER LESS THAN $20 MILLION FOR THE LAST FINANCIAL YEAR

BE AN AUSTRALIAN PERSON WITHIN THE MEANING OF THE EMDG RULES

HAVE AN AUSTRALIAN BUSINESS NUMBER (ABN)

FUNDING MUST BE USED TO MARKET ELIGIBLE PRODUCTS

YOUR MAXIMUM GRANT ENTITLEMENT FOR ANY PARTICULAR YEAR WILL BE BASED UPON YOUR ELIGIBLE TIER.
Funding must be used to market eligible products. Your maximum grant entitlement for any particular year will be based upon your eligible tier.

Ready to export

First time exporters

Two year grant agreement with a maximum of $40,000 per financial year
For eligible SME exporters who:

are ready to export in the grant year

have not exported before

have appropriate skills in marketing eligible products in a foreign country.
Tier 2
Expanding and Growing

Expanding and growing your export promotion activities

Seeking to grow and expand export promotion activity for eligible products.

Three year grant agreement, with a maximum $80,000 per financial year

Tier 3
Expanding, growing and strategic shift

Expanding, growing your export promotion activities and making a strategic shift, for example targeting a new market or a new type of customer

Exporting eligible products

Seeking to expand and grow export promotion activity

Ready to make a strategic shift in the marketing of eligible products in a foreign country.

Three-year grant agreement with a maximum $150,000 per financial year
Grants for representative bodies
Representative bodies or industry bodies are If you are a representative body are able to access a grants of up to $270,000.

What Are The Eligible EMDG Expense Categories?
- maintaining a representative in a foreign country
- short trips to a foreign country
- engaging a consultant to undertake research or promotional activities
- short trips within Australia
- reign buyer visits
- soliciting for business in foreign country
- providing free samples
- producing and providing promotional and advertising material
- intellectual property rights
- if you are a Tier 1 applicant, obtaining export readiness training.

Of up to 21 days per trip per traveller (including airfare, accommodation, meals and transport).

Created for the export market, including the cost of producing and or translating marketing materials such as brochures, social media marketing, Google advertising, the design and production of ads/brochures, or the design and development of an international website.

To research foreign markets for an eligible product or promotional activity in a foreign country.

TRIPS WITHIN AUSTRALIA
Of up to 21 days to support marketing activities to foreign buyers.

OVERSEAS BUYER VISITS
Internationally or within Australia (for up to 21 days), so you can undertake promotional activities to market your eligible products to a foreign buyer.

SOLICITING FOR BUSINESS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES
For example attending trade shows or conferences.

OFFERING FREE SAMPLES
Expenses relating to the actual cost of providing product samples free of charge, including postage or freight to deliver samples overseas.

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS TRAINING
Undertaking training or mentoring to assist you or your staff in improving the way you market your eligible products or services overseas.
